http://network.nationalpost.com/np/b...thornhill.aspx In a scene more likely to play out at a demolition derby than at the parking lot of a Thornhill fitness centre, a Toronto area information technology worker watched in horror as a BMW SUV drove onto his Hyundai Elantra last week.
Todd Jamison, a staffer at an Extreme Fitness gym located near Yonge Street and Highway 407, came off shift last Thursday evening to find the hood and windshield of his 2004 Elantra bashed in.
"It looked like someone had thrown a body through the windshield and taken a sledgehammer to the hood," he said.
As the senior network administrator for the gym, Mr. Jamison is only one of two employees who has access to the parking lot's security camera footage. What he found when he rewound the tape has garnered more than 200,000 hits on YouTube and was named the number one "worst parking error video" by the Daily Telegraph in the U.K.
"It's a monster truck rally taking place on top of my car," said Mr. Jamison, 35.
The video shows a black BMW SUV cruise into the parking lot as the driver looks for a parking space. The vehicle turns into a spot but instead of stopping, it accelerates up onto the hoods of two parked cars, one of which is Mr. Jamison's. The driver then reverses the SUV and waits for several seconds, as if contemplating what to do next. The vehicle then drives away.
"I was bewildered," said Mr. Jamison of his reaction when he first viewed the footage. "I was waiting to see two people having a fight or some crazy person with a baseball bat. Then I see this truck climbing on top of my car. That's when it hit me how absurd the video was."
He says York Regional Police told him they would like to find the SUV but the task would prove difficult because the licence plate is not visible on the security footage.
As for Mr. Jamison's Elantra, it's "pretty much totalled," he said, adding that the frame is damaged, making it impossible to drive. He had just finished paying off the vehicle.
"You always hear stories of people who pay off their vehicles and the next day something happens to it. I thought I had made it, but no."
Mr. Jamison says he hopes the driver eventually takes responsibility for his or her actions. "If you drive a BMW SUV, you can probably afford an insurance hike more than I can," he said. "Letting me pay for your mistakes is a cowardly way of going."
Tripta Kaushal, a 62 year-old woman, was later arrested for hit and run.
