Firetruck Smashes Through Store on Long Island

A firetruck responding to a call about a burning smell in a building on Long Island got involved in a crash with other vehicles on the way to the site and ended up slamming into a furniture store.

Only half of the firetruck was visible, the other half jammed inside the building. A black SUV was wedged between the truck and the brick.

The accident happened near Rutland Avenue and South Long Beach Road. It appears to have brought down an entire wall of the furniture store.

Security camera footage (below) from a nearby business showed a white Lexus SUV attempting to make a left turn onto Rutland Avenue, right before the store.

The firetruck was coming up behind the vehicle as it was about to start the turn, forcing the truck to swerve to avoid a collision. But doing so led it to smash into the building on the corner as well as the black vehicle parked outside. The tail end of the truck also hit the white SUV.

A half-dozen people were said to have been evaluated at the scene. Two civilians who had been inside the building were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, along with three first responders. The driver of the white SUV refused medical attention and did not wish to speak with reporters, but she did talk to police.

The Chinese guy in the white car is the person who picked up the call.

I suppose the furniture store is going to have a "Fire Sale" now, too!

Re: Firetruck Smashes Through Store on Long Island

They should have told the driver that the door was too small for a fire truck

Re: Firetruck Smashes Through Store on Long Island

First responders first on scene, slight delay to the original call. Truck didn't even look bad, if not for the missing windshield I'd think they could've just backed out & continued to the original call.
