Re: Dump Truck with Dump Bed Up Fail Moment
I'm not familiar with dump trucks, but shouldn't there be a safety on these trucks so they can't be moved with the hydraulic ram extended? Maybe some have one installed and some don't? One would think that should be a basic safety item. The only logical conclusion I could draw is that it may have been inadvertently activated while driving. Surely it can't be so hard to make sure the dump bed is down on your truck. It's the one main thing the truck was designed around. Any input from dump truck drivers about safeties and procedures would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Dump Truck with Dump Bed Up Fail Moment
I drive Roll Off (pickup, deliver and dump industrial waste bins) but have driven dump trucks a couple times to fill in a gap if need be. Unfortunately you can not lock out the truck from moving while extended because you have to be able to roll out from the material while dumping it. One problem I find with dump trucks is the controls for the box. In my industry, when I raise or lower my rails or operate my cable my controls are manual. I can not 'accidentally' raise my rails, only when I physically manipulate my control handles. On a dump truck however, they just flip a lever and that's that. If the PTO happens to be engaged while driving and the dumb dumb catches his sleeve on the lever, up goes the box. What, no alarms or lights? Damn, that used to be a nice bridge. I strongly believe that while the box it up there should be an audible and visual warning device installed by law. As it stands it's up to the dumb dumb behind the wheel to be paying attention to the job and not rushing off yipping on his phone to get his next load. |

Re: Dump Truck with Dump Bed Up Fail Moment
Have driven most types of dump trucks and some have alarms and or lights and some do not but those drivers were just plain idiots, one look in the mirror and you can't miss seeing the damn box up, just idiots. |
