A 34-year-old contract worker named Rahul K. died on June 7, after his motorcycle lost balance over an allegedly illegal speed bump in Ghaziabad, India. The victim, a Bhopura resident who worked a Group-D contract job at the Hindon Air Force Base, was out to get food for his family around midnight when the accident occurred.

Upon hitting the uneven speed breaker in front of the second RM Block Society gate, Rahul was launched into the air and dragged nearly 50 feet along the asphalt. He was rushed to the Hospital in Delhi, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The victim's family alleged that the unauthorized speed breaker was hastily demolished using a JCB machine the very next day to cover up the action. Debris from the structure was left lying by the roadside. India.

Local residents confirmed that the Residents' Welfare Association officials had built the structure without permission just days prior.

The police have received a formal complaint and are conducting a thorough investigation into the negligence.

A speed bump must ust be sanctioned by local civic authorities or traffic police as other organisations cannot build them independently. Central height must not exceed 10 cm with a rounded longitudinal parabolic profile across a 3.7-metre width.

It must be painted with clear, reflective white or yellow interlocking chevron patterns and drivers must be warned by caution boards placed exactly 40 metres in advance of the structure.

Group "D" workers are the lowest grade of civil workers, but at least are on the road to better pay and positions. Group D is normally laborers, cleaners, sweepers, guards, etc. but they are still official government employees and get decent pay as a start on their climb through the civil service ranks.

But ONCE you are on the Civil Service Pay Scheme, you can advance and get better pay and better responsibilities as you gain skills. Just getting ONTO the Civil Service role is a big achievement.

I am SURE this is a terrible blow to his family, who were probably anticipating a MUCH better life as he advanced in different positions. I think, being at an Air Force Base, he could have moved up pretty quickly. He may have even wound up with a security clearance eventually.

I hope they take inflation into account then. It would suck to get the same amount of money than in the 50's today.
