Re: Bike Thieves Vs Street Justice
I agree that the robber might have deserved to die....depending on the reason for stealing. Obviously if he intended to sell the bike to buy food for his children, and didn't use a loaded gun, I'd say he didn't deserve to die. But if he was intending on shooting the guy if he didn't give up his bike, then I say sure, he deserved it. BUT It's hard to call this perfect justice. Most likely this troubled thief had a family of some sort. At the very least, he had a mother that loves him most likely. Now she has lost her son through no fault of her own. Seems like there must be a better way to serve justice than to take a bunch of innocent people down with the perp. Killing the perp ALWAYS means innocent people will experience GREAT suffering. Isn't that what we are trying to avoid?? |

Re: Bike Thieves Vs Street Justice
I feel contradicted. As a liberal I'm fundamentally opposed to the death penalty and respect life (but I am pro-choice so boom, first contradiction) and yet, where personal property theft is concerned, I wouldn't be opposed to this good samaritan emptying his clip into the boy's head. why? because you know he's going to do it again once he's out of hospital/jail or whatever he ends up in next. so if a serial killer gets arrested, he should not be put to death and he should spend the rest of his life in jail. But a petty thief? Death. yup. that's the thinking. |
