Re: Young Iraqi Beheaded - Clean Shot
Research in rats suggests that after being decapitated the rats retain full conciousness for several minutes after decapitation. Meaning that he probably felt every bit of that for a good few seconds afterwards.

Re: Young Iraqi Beheaded - Clean Shot
Based on know research with sheep and pigs, consciousness is retained between 4 and 8 second post-decapitation. The sudden loss of blood pressure when the main vessels are severed "shocks" the brain into unconsciousness very quickly. So, you'll be conscious long enough to feel your head hit the ground, maybe get a glimpse of your body from an angle you've never seen it before if they didn't blindfold you, perhaps watch a spurt of blood shoot out from your neck, and then it's lights out. Frankly, this is pretty "humane" from the perspective that it's a quick death, minimal suffering. Of course, it's about as barbaric as you can get in every other sense. Glad the swordsman kept a sharp sword and knew what he was doing. |
