Woman Dies After Being Thrown From Bridge in Rope Jump Without Safety Cord
Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil A 21-year-old woman, Maria E.R.d.F., was killed after being thrown from a 40-meter-high bridge in a rope-jumping activity without the safety cord attached. According to the Military Police, a witness reported that employees of the organizing companies forgot to attach the cord before launching her from the platform. Video circulating on social media showed workers carrying her to the edge, throwing her, and then voices exclaiming “the cord, guys, the cord,” as bystanders reacted. Maria was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men fled the scene into a wooded area after the incident but were located with the help of a police helicopter, authorities said. Six people were detained in total, with three remaining in custody. Limeira city authorities said they would sue the federal government for alleged omission regarding safety and access control at the Ponte do Esqueleto, claiming responsibility for oversight lies with federal agencies. The municipality said it had previously requested measures that were not implemented. |

In the video where they throw her off, the rope or cord is still clipped onto one of the guys belts. In the picture with the ambulance from the ground, the rope looks like it got tossed over the edge. Perhaps they were trying to play it off as an accident instead of their fault.
