She had a history of schizophrenia, which is not her fault. Just like cancer, diabetes, and heart disease, she had a mental illness and was having an extremely difficult time being a mom to twins! She didn't open a door! Police vehicles are made without a way for backseat passengers to open! Duh! He left the door open, she was handcuffed, fell out, and then died. She may have lived if the idiot cops had not jerked her up to sitting position trying to save their own butts by waking her! Anyone who has brain cells knows not to move an injured person in case of internal, neck or spinal cord injuries. These cops are responsible for her death!

The payout should be proportional to the budget of the city - if all they can spare is $11,000, then that's all the family gets. These two admittedly simple minded hillbilly cops could have handled the situation better, but they were trying to serve and protect. The dead girl is now the best thing that happened to the family who is now a) rid of her b) gets to have their 15 minutes of TV fame, c) and can now spend all the insurance money. I hope the insurance settlement makes the family insane with envy and they all turn into assholes fighting over it and end up broke again.

Hopefully the victim’s family sues that town into oblivion. Past that, those cops will forever be marked as incompetent and possibly racist.

I’m quite sure if this had been a thin, blonde, white woman, she’d be alive today for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which is the attention they would have given her to make sure that she was as comfortable and safe in the backseat as possible.

i want a reality show with these two dumb cops: a dumb white one and a dumb black one, blundering through a typical work week. guns going off accidentally, electric chair circuit breaker popping, getting stuck in tree trying to rescue a kitty cat, forgetting to put parking brake on, some kid on a skateboard running circles around them, not knowing how to use their computers very well, etc

It seems super selective. If the subject is somewhat calm the cop might take the time to put a seatbelt on them, but in most cases when people are being rowdy, you are just going to be thrown into the back and get the door shut on you.
