here's the story:
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – Using a cellular phone, two male teenagers aged 16 and 18, who admitted being illegal drug users, recorded their attack on a prominent doctor in his home in this city on May 10.
The video being released by police, which ran for five minutes and 18 seconds and shown on ABS-CBN, showed how Dr. Andres Gumban, 63, a pulmonologist, struggled to flee from his young attackers and desperately called for help.
Based on investigation, Gumban died from 34 stab wounds in the chest, stomach, and neck, which was slashed.
The 16-year-old, who hails from Cadiz City, placed his cell phone on a window in the kitchen of Gumban’s house, while hiding a rock behind his back.
He and his companion, Fof Pascual Jr., 18, of Sagay City, were apparently waiting for the doctor to enter the house from the backyard.
As Gumban entered the kitchen and washed his hands in the sink, the 16-year-old approached him from behind and repeatedly hit him on the head with the rock.
When Gumban fell on the floor, Pascual stabbed him four times in the chest. The doctor tried to escape from his attackers by crawling toward his room but the two teenagers dragged him to the bathroom.
The footage shows that the doctor stood up and tried to get out of the bathroom but Pascual stabbed him again and locked him with the 16-year-old in the bathroom.
While Gumban and the 16-year-old were inside the bathroom, Pascual washed his hands and feet in the sink and paced back and forth from the doctor’s room.
The 16-year-old later came out of the bathroom and slipped on the bloodstained floor.
He stood up, washed himself in the sink, took his cell phone from the kitchen window and brought it to the bathroom to videotape himself with the lifeless doctor in the background.
He later held the camera before his face, smiled and winked before he turned it off.
Senior Superintendent Ricardo de la Paz, Bacolod City police chief, released the video to the media Tuesday night, saying that the two teenagers admitted being illegal drug users and “call boys” or sex workers.
Based on the video and other pieces of evidence, De la Paz said they filed robbery with homicide and murder charges against the two teenagers before the Bacolod City prosecutor’s office.
He added that the video debunked the claim of the 16-year-old that Gumban, armed with a knife, tried to molest him while he was in the bathroom, prompting him to grab the weapon and repeatedly stab the doctor.
De la Paz said they have established that the two had planned the robbery and killing of the doctor when they were still in Cadiz City.
Some P50,000 in cash and the doctor’s iPad, wristwatch and necklace were still missing, he said.
Also presented to the prosecutor’s office were the affidavits of the doctor’s neighbors, Ivan Amar and Jonathan Maniego, who foiled the escape of the suspects.
De la Paz said they were still investigating if Pascual and the 16-year-old had other companions when they committed the crime.
The 16-year-old claimed that Gumban befriended him through the social networking site Facebook last March but met him only last week.
On the night of the crime, the minor tagged along Pascual.
They were reportedly fetched by Gumban at the city’s North Terminal, and they bought food and drinks in a mall before proceeding to the doctor’s house.
