like we get it, you think god is great while you execute infidels, whatever, you don't gotta say it over and over. seems like they are trying to convince themselves more than anything else.

Actually, the term is used with a lot more versatility than you think. It actually means "God is greater (than your God)." It's a deception by the Muhammadans to only say that "Allah is great."

Anyway, the expression is used in place of "WTF?" "I can't believe this is happening." "I feel great." "This is a terrible situation." "What am I supposed to do now?"... The expression replaces all of these words and more. So, it's not directly religiously used.

If you really think about it, there aren't many Arabic curse word expressions that are not considered 'profanity'. So, ".. Akhbar" is used in place of that. Kind of like when US English speakers would say "Gosh" "Cheese and Rice"... etc.

For example in Arabic:
A: Your mother is a camel-fucking she-dog.
B: Allahu Akhbar... I feel sorry for you and your anger. ...

A: I saw a dog sitting on your chair.
B: Allahu Akhbar.. I have to burn the chair now. It's bad luck.
(Muslims were taught by Muhammad that dogs are bad and unclean. That's why most Muhammadans don't have dogs (unless they are working dogs) and prefer cats. Why does that happen you ask? It's because if they have a dog in their house, it blocks angels (and thus good luck) from entering the home.

As a side note, Muhammad ordered that all black dogs be killed.
In fact, Muhammad had something against black and black people.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Apostle said, "You should listen to and obey, your ruler even if he was an Ethiopian (black) slave whose head looks like a raisin."

He struck his left shoulder and there emitted from it the black offspring as if they were charcoal. He then said (to those who had been emitted) from the right (shoulder): For Paradise and I do not mind. Then He said to those (who had been emitted) from his left shoulder: They are for Hell and I do not mind.
