Sri-Lankan Monk Self-immolation, Unedited Version
If this has been posted already, I apologize. I searched quite thoroughly and was unable to locate this. The Sri-Lankan monk's name is Bowatte Indarathana. He burnt himself alive to protest Muslim halal method of slaughtering cattle and the alleged conversion of Buddhists by Sri Lanka's minority faiths. He died the next day in the intensive care unit. There was an investigation to see if those filming him could have stopped this or alerted the authorities. They knew what he was about to do and had an interview beforehand. And NO, he is not set on fire by that bystander at the beginning of the video. That dude is trying to remove the lighter from the monk, but then gets torched a bit. No more info on the man trying to remove the lighter. |

OoOoO MAN!!! Thanks for sharing! May he rest in peace... ... I believe that in this day and age... there are better ways to get a message across without resorting to any 'extremes'. He acted on what others beliefs are because they are different than his?! There ARE better ways of preaching wisdom... |

Thanks for this. I'd seen most of the fire itself but not the full video before. Crazy how he's just standing there smiling and laughing to passersby, and calmly speaking to the camera beforehand. I also never noticed how badly that other guy got it, I'd like to think he didn't suffer anything more than some minor burns.
