Re: Speeding Motorcyclist Collides With Car Making Turn on Highway
What a fckn shame. All it takes is one stupid ignorant driver who is not paying attention. No match against a car with an asshole inside of it.

Re: Speeding Motorcyclist Collides With Car Making Turn on Highway
If I knew nothing about what happened and saw a picture of the car I never in a million years would have suspected that amount of damage was done by a motorcycle probably weighing between 400-500lbs. Having a street bike myself I estimate he was doing between 110mph-125mph. If the driver of the car even saw the guy on the bike at all I would imagine he saw the lights at about the same vantage point as when the video begins. The biker's lack of reaction or braking (not that it would have made any difference) just goes to show how much distance was being covered in such a short amount of time. |

Re: Speeding Motorcyclist Collides With Car Making Turn on Highway
This guy was super close to living. If the car driver would have just gunned it he probably would have lived based on this picture. He still has the bar in his hands. It was that rear wheel that got him. That wasn't giving an inch and he was collapsing the sheet metal so it was like someone sticking their leg out to trip you. I've been riding for years and never been in an accident. Probably because you'll never see me do this dumb shit. If I get up to speeds 100+ I'm on a straight road I know well and there's no traffic as well as no blind driveways or intersections. Probably why the fastest I've got my bike up to is 146. And it's top speed is 190'ish. Just don't have enough safe road to get there. But I'd love to be able too. But at 120+ a fucking grasshopper can feel like a bullet. |

Re: Speeding Motorcyclist Collides With Car Making Turn on Highway
I believe that both parties bear significant responsibility. First off, the motorcycle was definitely traveling way too fast. I suspect this was to get good video (I don't believe that the guy with the phone just happened to be there). On the other hand, the driver of car was in the process of making an extremely gradual left turn. By the time it comes into view, the vehicle has already crossed the center line and is no longer braking. Anyone who decides to coast through such a gradual turn must be operating on the assumption that there is absolutely no oncoming traffic. While it is true that the motorcycle was closing fast, it's headlight was on and the driver had an unobstructed view of at least 1/4 mile. The lack of brake lights, or any other indications of evasive action suggests to me that the driver was completely oblivious until impact. The fact he was encroaching into the oncoming lane the entire time probably made the biker hesitant to take evasive action. Watching at slower speeds, it's a lot closer than appears at normal speed. A fraction of a second later and he clears it. Unfortunately, he was going so fast that there was still a considerable amount of kinetic energy at the moment of impact. So, while speed may be the primary factor, the driver's inattention, failure to yield, and the illegal left turn were definite contributors. In my opinion, anyway. |

I was barely a B student in physics back in college, but I remember that the changing the speed of an object has an exponential effect on its energy. It's why the M16 can be more lethal than an AK47 even though its round has less mass. If you are a combat vet, TYFYS. |

Re: Speeding Motorcyclist Collides With Car Making Turn on Highway
You're right about a grasshopper feeling like a bullet. Couple of years ago I took a yellow jacket to the cheekbone at 50 mph. It felt like someone stabbed me in the face with a red hot sword and I only had a half shell. I was barely able to pull off safely and I'm laying on the ground in tears but no swelling for a couple of minutes - nobody could tell what was wrong till it looked like I had a golf ball below my eye

Wow that car looks like it was hit by a semi, not a bike. Shows how fast he was really going
