It's far more likely that the water level rose when they were already in the stream. There are several videos of this happening where are trickling stream that is only ankle deep turns in to a raging river in less that 2 minutes.

Absolutely. I have even seen it with the Colorado River.

I have seen a dry river bed that hasn't seen water in years turn into a raging torrent overflowing a concrete 'bridge' in a matter of 10 minutes or so. Frightening. Sobering. |
