I wasn't able to find anything about Israel Keyes around here through a search and only recently discovered that the full footage of the abduction of his last known victim had been released to the public. Sorry if this is a repost.

Surveillance footage of the 2012 abduction of 18-year-old barista, Samantha Koenig, while working at an Anchorage coffee stand. The video depicts serial killer Israel Keyes approaching the window and ordering a coffee. After completing the order, Keyes appears to direct her attention to something behind her, which can be seen at the 1:53 mark. While her back is turned, he brandishes a gun, taking her by surprise when she turns back to him. She is forced at gunpoint to turn out the lights and empty the register. Keyes enters the coffee stand through the window, seen at 7:41, binds her hands, and leads her to his vehicle. Koenig was held in Keyes' shed where she was tortured, raped, and strangled to death. Her body remained there while he went on a cruise with his daughter. When he returned, he reportedly sewed her eyes open in order to appear alive and took a photograph of her with that day's newspaper. The photo was posted in a dog park, along with a ransom note demanding $30,000 be placed in her bank account. The family was alerted to the photo when Keyes used her phone to text her boyfriend. They complied to the ransom demand, and Keyes was eventually discovered after using her bank card. He confessed to three murders in detail, hinting to several others before taking his own life while awaiting trial.

Also gonna throw in a screenshot of the text I was able to grab. I've never seen the ransom photo and couldn't dig it up anywhere. Not sure if it's ever been released or where else to look, if it's buried somewhere.

So tragic. It was hard watching this knowing what would happen, especially when I saw there were other people walking around outside. My guess is he probably said he'd kill her and her family if she resisted. I like to think that if I'm ever in that situation I'll either get away or die trying, but it's easy to think what we'd do if ever confronted by a kidnapper. Actually responding that way is probably another story. Thanks for sharing the video.

I remember seeing this story when she was still missing. I knew what the outcome would be, but nothing near what actually happened. When I found out about the video being available and gave it a watch, my heart sank, especially watching her interact with him for so long with no indication something would happen. And that text being sent to the boyfriend, I can't imagine the emotions he was feeling seeing her name on the phone after so long just to be followed by that message...

all the precautions he took when he planned to kill and then a stupid fuck up like in this case and he gets caught. Wonder how many more he killed but guess we will never know.

Yeah, I'm not sure what was going through his head during any of the Koenig stuff. All of that time planning years in advance in places he'd never be suspected, and out of the blue, he chooses a local girl and basically throws himself at the police by using her card.
