Just think a belt or scarf in right place would’ve saved his life.

Re: Russia - Drunk Bleeds Out
He really squeezed every bit of value out of his bus pass. Even death wasn't enough to deter him from 'not getting every pennys worth'. In these tough economic times, commendable behavour. I hope the bus ticket gets handed down to his loved ones.

Cpr? Can she not see that his entire 10 pints of blood are outside of his body? I wonder how long it took to bleed out? I wish there was the whole video. Not to mention, what artery is in your shin that could cause you to bleed out? Wondering if he was on blood thinners or a hemophiliac. Usually you have to pierce your femoral artery for this type of rapid blood loss. Underrated post imo

Re: Russia - Drunk Bleeds Out
He was a famous movie star in the 1950's and 60's. He did films such as "Bridges at Toko-Ri" which was a Korean War film. He also played an irritable architect in the movie "BREEZY", about an old man who befriends a cheerful little hippie girl, and their ensuing affair. If you see the film, "LICORICE PIZZA", a main part of the plot is where the girl in LP is trying for the role of "Breezy" in that film, is given a prop guitar to practice playing, and winds up falling off of William Holden's motorcycle during a drunken jump over a fire pit at a golf course, smashing the prop guitar. The actor riding the motorcycle is called "Jack Holden", and they changed the name of the film to "Bridges at Toko-San", but it is a direct link to the making of the film "BREEZY". The actual girl who played the part in the movie "BREEZY" is Kay Lenz. (My favorite actress!) The film "BREEZY" was Clint Eastwood's first job as a director. William Holden was a heavy drinker, and had very few friends. Supposedly, he didn't understand why he was such a big star, and felt he was a fraud who had no real talent, thus his drinking. When he died, he was totally intoxicated, fell down and hit a living room table, cutting the temporal artery in the side of his head. He got up and sat in a chair, holding a piece of Kleenex over the wound, but not very well, because he was so drunk, and the blood drained out, and he bled to death just sitting there. He wasn't found for 4 days, and I always wanted to see if pics of the scene were here on DR. No luck so far. Another memorable performance was as himself, the famous actor, in the "I Love Lucy" show, where she is having lunch at a famous restaurant in Hollywood, and WH sits down near her, and she is star-struck, and hilarity ensues as she tries to meet him. As usual for Lucy, it turns into a fiasco, and Lucy is terribly embarassed about the whole thing. Later that same night, Ricky Ricardo brings William Holden, who he met at the club where he was performing, home to meet Lucy, who he knows is a big fan of WH, and she is afraid to come out and meet him, due to the big circus at the restaurant that same afternoon. It was a pretty funny episode, and the equivalent today would be someone meeting Jack Nicholson, or Leonardo De Caprio, or someone of similar current stature. At the time of the Lucy show, it was a very big deal, and was a big event. (Film stars NEVER appeared on TV shows at that time.) (Hit shows today have about 10 million viewers for a top show. During the run of the "Lucy" show, she normally had 70 MILLION viewers for every show.) Store hours changed and businesses closed on the nights she was on, because NO ONE was shopping while her show was on the air. And no TV star wanted to be opposite her show, because they knew they would get slaughtered in the ratings.) Google Lucille Ball and read about the production efforts they used for the Lucy Show. It's pretty amazing, and Desi Arnaz was a VERY smart guy. TV shows at that time were done live, and broadcast with a nice picture only in the EASTERN U.S. What the WEST got was kinescope episodes, which were FILMS of the VIDEO, and were very poor quality. Neither Desi, nor Lucy, wanted to show a crap version of their show on the west coast, so they came up with a 3 camera video setup that enabled them to shoot each episode live, and have a great picture for EVERY broadcast in the U.S. (Some other guy came up with the technique, but Desi recognized it for what it was, and wanted it used on their show.) The producers of the show didn't want to pay for it, but agreed to let Desi and Lucy spend their own money on it if they wanted. The result of this was that Desi and Lucy wound up OWNING the "Lucy" show entirely. This was the LAST time THAT ever happened in network TV, as it made Lucy and Desi so rich they could buy and operate their own studio in Hollywood. (Desilu Studios) It generated millions of dollars for them over the next 50 years. No production company ever made that mistake again with their shows. They also included some of their writers in the deal, so those writers also made millions over the next decades, holding a percentage of the show. If you watch the movie "Being the Ricardos", which just came out, you get to see some of what happened during those years. William Holden was never as big a star as John Wayne, but he WAS in the same class of stardom. He was one of the leading men in Hollywood in the 60's and 60's. |
