Re: Russia - Car Flat As A Pancake
Life is all about timing. Being at the right place at the right time or just the opposite; wrong place, wrong time. Sad story for that unfortunate young woman and the other person driving. Luck of the draw~and not all luck is good..

Re: Russia - Car Flat As A Pancake
So when you start your tractor and your air gauge builds up your able to drive without out the buzzer sounding off, you can move the truck without building air hence why they say let your air brakes build up. With that being said as your driving your able too waste your air brakes whether it's by riding them down a hill or a leak in your lines that being said your SOL. Because your service brake isn't stopping that rig. You need 4 football fields of length too come to a complete stop |

Re: Russia - Car Flat As A Pancake
you lose air.....the truck will not roll. but yes the brakes begin to release at around 40 to 50psi. but they are dragging for sure and would never get over 15mph without catching fire. 125psi is a fully released s cam. either way.....s cam could have spun and lost brakes that way due to bad bushings or slack adjusters. which is more likely because they are a bitch job to do on most occasions. and would probably be "overlooked" by owners or the shop. normally this is what they do. because its a 2000$ job per axle. its kinda like.....yea, its a 10 cent gasket, but the transmission needs removed yada yada. air is almost always (especially if the truck left the lot that day) a simple fix. unless its a pump or something.....now I could say if it was below freezing the brakes COULD have, could have froze, but that is super rare to have brakes freeze OPEN. we have a machine that warms the iso, shoots it in both glad hands. but that usually early morning below freezing temps. after she's moving though its good for the day, unless of course you have a long haul truck and they spend the night somewhere in freezing temps.......well thats an easy 500$ service call for some lucky fucker in the area... anyway.... yea. |

Re: Russia - Car Flat As A Pancake
you are close, but you are thinking backwards. sorry I had to re-read what you wrote there. lets see if I can make sense here for you. the air (like you said) builds up YES....its builds up to release the brakes, takes about 3 to 4 mins. that "buzzer" is there to let the driver know there is no leaks....or not a leak big enough to affect stopping, ive seen brake chambers leak for a year without replacing (small leak) problem with that is the pump never governs, so the pump works overtime wearing it out sooner than later. anyway...yes if you ride the brakes you will lose air but, thats what the pump is for....but if something happen and the truck OR trailer lost its air, the tractor would come to a stop. not keep rolling. essentially the complete reverse of hydraulic brakes |
