This fucks me up on a personal level. This is one of my deepest fears. As a butch queer woman I often run into men who want to “teach me a lesson” or “treat me like a man” regarding violence. I don’t work in illegal trades, but I’ve been threatened with knives for just dating a woman. Not because I’m “gay” but because as a butch woman. According to some people (including an ex-girlfriend’s mother) I’m “an it” or “a thing”. Dehumanizing people with different gender expression has got to stop. |
