Colson turned himself in to police on Tuesday morning and has been charged with first-degree murder.

The two men had a history.

Colson was the subject of a profanity- and insult-filled Facebook Live tirade Robinson made.

In the post, which still remained on Robinson’s page Tuesday, he accused Colson of selling drugs in Wingate, and “always [snitching] on the little young boys and get them [jail] time and stuff.”

Robinson and Colson had apparently known each other for decades, according to the video, and Robinson said that as a teenager, he had dated the woman Colson later married.

“Doug, all I say to you is, ‘Die and go to hell,’ ” Robinson said in the video. “You gonna burn in hell. You burning so bad, inside your skin is turning darker every year.”

A man with a reported penchant for outing North Carolina’s usual suspects on Facebook Live flaunted a fling he claimed to have had with the wife of his alleged killer.

Prentis Robinson, the crooning guitarist killed near the Wingate Police Department headquarters Monday, knew murder suspect Douglas Colson long before his death, which was broadcasted on his Facebook page.


The two were rivals, according to one of Robinson’s videos from January.

“She still loves me — and you married her,” Robinson boasted during the hour-long video.

The 55-year-old victim rang in the New Year by soulfully serenading his friends before taking on his beef with Colson on Jan. 1.


“You keep hating on me because you married a woman I didn’t want to marry,” Robinson later added in the profanity-laden video. “I wanted to be like Jesus, stay single.”

Robinson, at times, declared himself “a lover” and a cowboy slinging “the truth.”

Robinson used his Facebook as a platform to sing for friends and identify suspected drug dealers in the Wingate area, as WJZY-TV previously reported, a vigilante streak local authorities fear got him in trouble.

The slay victim reserved much of his rant for Colson, who he referred to as Doug. He blasted Colson for “hating, snitching, lying” before threatening to fight him for accusing Robinson of beating his mother, as first reported by the Charlotte Observer on Tuesday.

“You are a disgrace,” Robinson jeered.

“When those cops come you always snitching on those young boys, getting them time,” Robinson said.

The suspect in Robinson's death can be seen confronting him during a Facebook Live video.

Robinson, after going to Wingate Police Chief Donnie Gay about a stolen phone, was confronted by his killer seconds before gunfire rang out in the fateful and final broadcast.

“You on live,” Robinson warned, briefly showing the suspect on camera.

Colson, 65, was charged in Robinson’s death Tuesday after turning himself into police.

Colson had a brush with the law once before, state records show, having served time for dealing cocaine in 2010. He was convicted in 2013. He was convicted of driving while under the influence after two prior arrests in 1998 and 1999.

The shooting on Monday locked down the nearby Wingate University and Wingate Elementary School, about 30 miles from Charlotte.

I swear people log onto facebook and it's like part of their brain switches off and they become different people.
