Police Release Bodycam Footage - Heritage Hotel, Orange County
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has released video of an officer-involved shooting that claimed the life of a 28-year-old Orlando man just moments after his brother was fatally shot by a separate individual. After responding to reports of a shooting on August 6, the video shows the moment that police discovered 28-year-old B. R. in possession of a gun at the scene. The video shows officers as they approach the body of 21-year-old D. J, who was shot and killed at the Heritage Hotel located at 7900 S. Orange Blossom Trail. As the officers tend to J, witnesses alert them to the fact that R, who is standing close by, is carrying a gun. The deputies turn their attention to R. and direct him to drop his gun, which he is seen holding in his left hand. After a brief struggle, R. turns his back and is fired at multiple times by a deputy. Both were pronounced deceased at a local hospital. According to police, the brothers were originally involved in an altercation with a third man that shot J. That man, who has not been identified by police, has been cooperating with authorities. According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy who shot R. has been employed with OCSO since 2018. His name has not been released, per Marsy’s Law. |

The victim isn't black so ofc nobody will even talk about this. But if the victim was black, roads would already be blocked by protesters... White life matters too!

I'm gunna need to hear the full story and see the bodycam from the other officer before I make a judgment on this one. This POV does make it seem like the guy had his left hand raised... and the cop was probably quick to fire due to the proximity of his partner and the other witnesses. I'm wondering why they focused in on the victim without checking for the gunman first though.

Not a good move by the cop, but an even worse move by the deceased. No, I don't suspect he'll go unpunished for that one. |
