The killer didn't have a round chambered, so pulling the trigger on an SA semi auto does not make too much of a noise, also the background noise at the laundromat sure masked the sound of the trigger being pulled, when the guy chambered the round he did it pointing to the ground and far away from his ears so again, the noisy laundromat masked that sound quite effectively, the guy seemed too focused on what to buy from the vending machine to pay attention to his surroundings, he paid the price with his life for that mistake.
