I guess it varies country by country.

In my country, the first rule is that the gun must always be pointed in the safe direction.
If you don't know what the safe direction is, you point it down.

Second rule is that you only handle the gun to do maintenance or fire it.
Pulling out a gun for no reason can cost you your gun licence. This strict rule avoids all kinds of "showing off".

Third rule is that you must always treat the gun as if its loaded and ready to fire...even if you know it isn't. You treat it as if it may go off on its own at any given time.

Jesus Christ, what a bunch of fucking idiots. Not only the discharge of the gun in the first place, but then no one does any first aid, even the person who gets shot just stands there walking around instead of laying down. Then when he does fall down, everyone just leaves him there.
