Re: Necropapiloscopy of Burned Victim

I've witnessed several autopsies and vicks was the first thing the M.E.s put on. I don't recall ever seeing them wearing masks. I wore both mask and Vicks and you can still smell the disgusting gases as soon as the stomach is perforated.

Re: Necropapiloscopy of Burned Victim

So how do the pathologists not have masks on and a smear of something under their noses to combat the smell?
Because using things like Vick’s vaporub it actually opens your sinuses. We always told the police to use it, knowing it doesn’t help one bit. Honestly with a burned victim like this. They do smell like a good smoked BBQ. He’s what’s considered a “Crispy Critter” in my book, it’s the lightly burned ones that really stink like half burned flesh. To kill the sense of smell in a decomposing case. I would actually carry a jar of white vinegar. It will make you unable to smell anything for quite a few minutes. Then it’s kind of like a fart it slowly comes back and you get use to the smell.
