Re: Myanmar - Rebel Decapitated While Trying To Shoot RpG
Looks like the rocket motor exploded in the tube when he fired it. Old rounds can get cracks in the propellant, which is a good way for the whoe motor to detonate instead of burn evenly.

Actually The Best Video I've Seen Here To Date. Once weapon misfires or has an issue it's supposed to carefully disposed of. Obvious that rpg was defective and had a catastrophic major failure. Blew his upper segment to beef jerky Asian style. Fucki it call in the dogs to clean up the chunks.

Re: Myanmar - Rebel Decapitated While Trying To Shoot RpG
So in RPG-7s there's a little "booster charge" and it has a little cap on the end of it that functions like a piston......that's what allows the expanding gasses to "launch" the round (the rocket). If that tube becomes warped or obstructed, that plug can get stuck inside and cause a massive overpressure. I've watched this clip about 2 dozen times in super slow motion and I'm pretty sure that's what you see the moment of detonation flying backwards though it's hard to tell from the quality of the the video when I zoom in. Little story about RPGs. I was in OIF-1 and when I was in Sadr City I was sitting on the roof of a police station that overlooked a market. The market area was maybe 300-400 yds from my vantage point. Around 4-5am just before daylight the market area was totally empty aside from the occasional vehicle passing through or making a delivery. I see a taxi stop in front of a cafe and I watch a man go in and come out a minute later before going and opening the trunk. Nothing seems out of the ordinary till I see him pull a long cylinder out and sit it upright. I couldn't find the binoculars so I got down behind the M240B machine gun but it only had a 3x magnifier. By the time I located him in the scope and focused, this man fires at me and I can see this RPG round heading right at me along with the simultaneous sound from the launch. I ducked down and laid flat while the rocket passed about 15 ft over my head. I yelled "get up, RPG!" to my squad which were all sleeping behind me. Then I got back down behind the machine gun and started firing on that vehicle as the guy that fired on me, I didn't see him anymore. Again, 300-400 yards with small magnification doesn't allow for surgical round placement. The guy next appears in view from the front of the vehicle and he's aimed in my general direction. Almost instantaneously I see an explosion right where this man was standing and then I don't see him anymore. Whatever the threat was it was no more. I needed a few minutes to mentally recover from having just had an RPG narrowly miss me. My squad went into the market area and it turns out the man blew himself up probably in the same way this man did in this video. It's been 20+ yrs since that morning and I can still see a man firing an RPG at me when I close my eyes. |

There are so many things that could have caused this too, I'm amazed these guys even consider using RPG's because they literally can go bad from any number of things including corrosion, wiring, chemicals, etc. Not to mention RPG's are generally just extremely susceptible to environment conditions such as heat and humidity, and from the scenery, I think they have plenty of both in this area. Loved the reaction from the guys watching, they didn't even give a shit.
