Re: MH17 Day 1 Video Dump
Can't say I agree Tbh, looking at the initial crash footage (large black plume then fire + small debris trails) it would appear the aircraft was largely intact on impact. Most likely winged or holed by missile (not the instant impact-boom-fireball you see in movies) then descent and terrain impact. Yes, lots probably unconscious due to hypoxia but quite sure enough would have retained some awareness. The dismembered remains appear to be some distance from main crash site, suggesting these were caught in initial blast / break up. The majority of relatively intact bodies surround large debris field appear to have sustained injuries consistent with impact trauma.

Re: MH17 Day 1 Video Dump
I agree the aircraft was not completely destroyed in mid-air. The Buk destroys the target via proximity detonation and shrapnel damage - they're mostly used for engaging small supersonic targets so this route makes a lot of sense. All your observations are fair... I just personally think instantly decompressing like that would more or less tear your lungs out of your throat and the radical deceleration is also a bit factor. More sharp-eyed DR members have pointed out many bodies (RIP) are missing eyeballs, although impacting the ground at terminal velocity might get that done too. |

a heat seeker will destroy a hot turbine, so the cabin might be pretty unharmed. And lots of folks climb Mt Everest and survive. I guess most of these folks were alive the whole way down. Makes me think of the Columbia |

Re: MH17 Day 1 Video Dump
wrong. it isn't generally healthy, but it isn't"instant death" either. google Aloha Airlines when a huge portion of the fuselage blew out and sucked a few people out with it. the aircraft landed and almost everyone lived.
