The victim I.M. did not know L.M.K. and did not have a child with him. He is originally from New Jersey and was a basketball player of minor repute who once had a scholarship at Rutgers. When it became clear he did not have a future at the top of the game, he left for a career of sorts in the lower leagues, until he fell out of basketball entirely, worked in insurance and then became an aspiring rapper. He drifted into a peripatetic existence and would end up in Mexico but not before he made the life of another woman hell.

K.S. was a student at Montclair State who agreed to go to a basketball game with L.M.K. He quickly developed an obsession with her despite them never having a relationship. He was arrested multiples times for showing up at her workplace and home address, and was charged with three counts of stalking. He was sentenced to probation.

In Tijuana he developed another obsession, this time with a woman who worked at the Adelita nightclub but she was not the young woman he killed. The writer of the piece I link to below works on the premise that he intended to kill his obsession. As she was not working that night it appears that I.M. was just unfortunate. She made eye contact with this psychopath and that was sufficient to end her life. In fact, this fucker is such a lunatic that the top name on his list of approved visitors at La Mesa, the prison in which he is being kept, is the woman who he most likely would have killed were she working that night. I will give him credit for keeping his options open though: on his arrival in prison he was hitting on the women guards.
