The ENTIRE point of these executions is to INSTILL FEAR IN YOUR RIVALS. Drugging them before killing them defeats that entirely.

A lot of Islamic State victims, especially the Western hostages, were calm during their final videos because they were subjected to torture and prolonged terror and mock executions before their final appearances on camera. The body can't maintain fight or flight responses for long periods so always switches them off eventually.
