Pretti was actually in violation of the MN carry law when he resisted detainment and was shot. The MN law says that you have to have your permit and state ID on you when carrying. His failure to have his ID while carrying is a felony- the same as if he were carrying without a permit at all.

I’m a bit dubious on the circumstances of his shooting, as it does appear that he was disarmed before being shot, but we haven’t seen any camera angles to show what he was doing with his hands at that moment.

If he was violently resisting police, and they take a weapon off him, but he is still actively resisting and, say, digs his hands into his pockets, that would be a justified-shoot in any other circumstance.

It sucks that he was killed, but one drastically increases their chances of something like this happening to them when they go out, armed and belligerent, and try to impede the lawful operations of the police.
