I did a search on the forums and found that this was already posted in current events section 5 years ago, but I've found a longer version of the video and more info about the case since then. Feel free to move/merge threads if necessary, as I'm not sure if this was okay.

A 54-year-old military veteran from Potacello, Idaho, was captured on video when he kicked down the door carrying a machete. In February 2013, the police were called to the 200 block of South Garfield Street. The 911 caller said that a man with a machete was threatening residents and had entered an apartment complex.

After T.T. busted out windows in his own upstairs apartment, he then broke into another second floor apartment. The audio on the video clip captures that resident screaming at T.T. to get out. The woman managed to chase T.T. out of the apartment and that’s when he went downstairs to J.C.'s apartment.

He then broke into J.C.'s home by breaking the door, and was shot 3 times in the chest. He was shot twice, but continued his approach, after the 3rd shot he went down, and was held at gunpoint until police arrived.

J.C., the tenant who shot T.T. and caught the terrifying saga on video, acted in self-defense and was not charged, a court ruled. The firearm (a 9mm) J.C. used that day was returned to him after a 45 day wait period. He has since purchased two more guns and upgraded his girlfriend's .22.

How to get charged with attempted murder and and fuck your chances at an appeal:

The defense attorney for the machete attacker says that his client was not aware of what he was doing, when he kicked down the door of the Idaho home. Attorney Dave Martinez further contends that T.T. “finally snapped out of it” when he was shot.

Defender: "Breath."
Intruder: "You killed me..."
Defender: "You were gunna kill me!"
Intruder: "You're right, I was."
Defender: ..."Well I did the right thing then."

Guys...he didn't know what he was doing.

Neuro-Psychologist Mark Corgiat maintains that T.T. suffers from frontal lobe damage from a vehicle accident and PTSD.

“His fight or flight is constantly in overdrive,” Corgit added.

To his credit, apparently it was confirmed that he has no history of violence (but that seems weird to me... considering he was in the military. I guess he served in a nonviolent military. )

T.T. will spend at least five years in prison before he is eligible for parole. He has also been fined pay $1,200 and will have a no-contact order with his victims until 2025.

Citing T.T.’s military experience and the violent nature of the Idaho machete attack, the prosecutor asked for a seven-year fixed prison sentence, saying the accused posed a threat to the safety of society.

Understandably, they both have PTSD now and fear he might try to get revenge when he gets out. His girlfriend still wakes up in the middle of the night from nightmares.

I tried to included a copy of the appeal that was filed but I'm having trouble adding it. It's not really all that interesting to be honest though. and why the fuck is "T.T."'s identity being protected...? couldn't be more of a public menace.

Because I was under the impression that we couldn't post names anymore. Is that not the case?
