At least 91 people have died after a massive explosion when a fuel tanker collided with a lorry in Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown.

Fuel spilled before igniting and the resulting inferno engulfed bystanders and vehicles at a busy junction.

Footage shows showed badly charred bodies in the streets surrounding the tanker.

President Julius Maada Bio said his government would do "everything to support the affected families".

Freetown's Mayor said there were "rumours that more than 100 people have lost their lives".

The state-run morgue is reported to have received more than 90 bodies and some 100 people are being treated in hospitals and health centres around Freetown.

One report said a bus full of people was completely burnt, while nearby shops and market stalls were caught up in the flames. Others said people were collecting fuel afterwards and also got badly burned or died.

Can't imagine the pain these people will go through. My dad suffered burns from an alcohol stove in Sweden to his hands, throat, and ears and even in a first world country with excellent medical care it was hell for him. These people not only have much more severe burns than he did but they also cover almost their entire bodies. That hospital is a circus of human suffering.

Jesus, errrr, Odin's shit! Glad you shared your story, I have several Swedish Trangia alcohol burners for emergencies / SHTF scenarios (I hate camping and avoid it like the plague). Can you give us details on what type of stove exploded and what caused the explosion (using petrol instead of alcohol or)?

If I was burned like those people, especially in that place, I would want someone to show up with a submachine gun and shoot me pronto.
