It might be muzzle flash or steel jacket bullets hitting steel or another hard surface. Lots of Russian military ammo is steel jacketed or sometimes steel core AP (armor piercing) or semi AP with mild steel core, when you shoot it on a gun range you get sparks like that from the steel backstop.

could be the heat warping the barrel from all the non stop shooting and as others have said armor piercing could be throwing pieces of the barrel out when shot

I'm trying to think of a precedent for it, within the context of jihad, ISIS, etc.. This wasn't suicide, they actively tried to escape, and, of course, they were promised half a million rubles. Is there precedent? I also find it odd that the only contact between ISIS and the perps was Telegram conversations. I havent stayed up on the flow of information over the past 12 hours, but this was the last information I knew. I'm not saying I'm convinced it was the CIA, or Ukraine, or Russia, but it's a unique circumstance, to say the least. Just trying to think of any other similar situations.

There was another video I can't find of the guy who lost an ear in a forest, iirc, whining and getting beaten with a group of Russian guys there. One of them had a dog. Does anyone have that one?
