Las Vegas Police Fatal Shooting of Carjacker
Las Vegas police gave an update on the shooting that involved officers earlier this week on Twain Avenue. Officers said a man was driving a stolen car and took off from police when they tried to pull him over. Police say he was driving recklessly for an hour with two women in the car, and after he dropped them off at a gas station, they were detained and told officers the man had a shotgun in his lap. Eventually, police said the man, C.R, stopped in the street in front of the Siegel Suites, near Twain Avenue and Paradise Road, and attempted to carjack a driver. He then pointed the shotgun at police, who then opened fire. He died at Sunrise Hospital. Authorities said he had a criminal history in Nevada and Utah. The officers involved in the shooting involving Las Vegas police on April 21 have been identified as officer Jonathan Tomaino and officer Alex Kempf, according to the department. Officer Tomaino is 27 years old and has been employed with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department since 2016. Officer Kempf is 26 years old and has been employed with the LVMPD since 2016. Officer Tomaino and Officer Kempf are assigned to the Bolden Area Command, Community Policing Division. They have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this incident. |
