I am a former Police Officer in the U.S. and I can tell you we were trained in "Viper", a form of judo which included disarming techniques. I am also trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and was very proficient in it when I became a police officer. I mentioned this in an earlier post on here. Me and my partner were attempting to subdue a drug crazed 15 yr old girl. We wrestled her to the ground at which time she produced a box cutter from her clothing, mysel and my partner both saw the box cutter but chose to try and disarm her. Big mistake and it cost us. She sliced and diced both of us pretty bad and then got away because we were too badly injured to try and pursue her. I learned a valuable lesson that day and will never ever again try and disarm a person with a knife. It is impossible and in my department because of our incident Officers were trained not to try a physically disarm a person with a knife. That happened before tasers later came along and I am all for using the taser first but if that doesn't work do not try to be macho and physically try to take the knife away. You will pay dearly. There is no controlling or disarming a crazy person wildly swinging a bladed object I don't care how much wrestling training you have had.

So you are suggesting these police personnel should run away from this lady running after them with a knife and hide in their car. Then try to disarm her with their words amplified through a tannoy. Good luck with that idea.
