Okay no, I'm sorry but just stop right there please. There is no "political agenda" HAHA are you fucking serious? The reason why it's called a "hate crime" (like it always has been) should be pretty damn obvious when someone has no motive other than pure, unadulterated bigotry. To make a long story short, you're either a part of the solution or part simply part of the problem. My dad is a retired lawyer, having worked for the state of Illinois as well as the attorney general for over 20 years. So needless to say he's handled multiple murder cases, and has been on both sides as a defensive lawyer, in addition to a prosecuting one. He even was appointed on a murder trial between two gay men that had been together for quite sometime... the argument between the two got really heated (I can't remember exactly what it was about), but it boiled over to where one eventually picked up a knife and stabbed the other to death in their home. The guy to say the least was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his boyfriend. My point is that legally, morally and ethically (NOT politically), the example I have given cannot be considered a hate crime (since it all depends on the motive, if there is one of course). However, if the guy who stabbed him was straight.. well, that's a different story even though murder it murder. I suggest you read on wikipedia about what a Hate Crime actually is so you can educate yourself. In the context I have presented, this would also be a huge factor if racism, xenophobia or misogyny was also involved in some way even though people still kill each other for no reason at all sometimes. |

Believe me, I KNOW what Homophobia is like. I have experienced it since I was in elementary school by both kids, teachers and random adults. I also know that phobia means "fear" and know all about the different kinds of phobias but I think you're taking what I said far too literally. When it comes to bigotry like this, often blatant hatred and enmity, as well as intolerance play more of a factor than unease or peturbation. Most people usually tend to only fear what they simply don't understand... whether it be due to ignorance, lies that they've been told or had implanted into their minds ever since they were little, if not just in general. It's the human condition, however nobody is born racist, sexist or homophobic. It's all taught!

I think that you don't understand what i meant. I was agreeing with you that phobia doesn't mean fear alone. There is this thing called photophobia, this means discomfort or pain to the eyes due to light exposure or by presence of actual physical sensitivity of the eyes, not that you're afraid of light. Some people think that phobia only means a fear for something but that's bs.

I have a relative who is a religious fundamentalist. When confronted with such incidents, he turns to his Bible, specifically Leviticus 20:13, and says that this ends the discussion. As you might guess, this passage prescribes the death penalty for homosexual acts. There are more people out there who think along those lines than one would like to believe. |
