Re: Kid Climbs on Train, Lights Up

When I was eight in 1968, we were hanging around near a fenced in power station right next to a supermarket when a schoolmate in our group climbed over the fence, climbed up on the steel girder structure as if it was a jungle gym, and touched a high tension wire. There was a deafening BOOM and a blinding flash that literally left our entire group unable to see for a few seconds. When the mists cleared, the kid was on the ground, very very dead and very very blackened. It was, pardon the expression, quite shocking to see this. This video caused a flashback to that horrible memory. I didn't really like the kid, but that's beside the point. It was such an awful thing to see. Luckily, it was quick for the kid. We all should die so smoothly. Makes you wonder why the electric chair isn't rigged for insta-death like what happens to the boy in the video. I guess it would mean a messy clean-up. I think I saw a chunk fall off that kid on top of the train. Or maybe it was a sneaker or cap.

Re: Kid Climbs on Train, Lights Up

Are you serious when you say that 45 volts "won't kill you"?
If your skin is dry then the electrical resistance will be about 1k-10k ohms, so your ass is safe, for sure.
BUT if wet, then it may reach up to 200 ohms.
In this case, i can kill you with a 10$ Nokia phone battery charger. Be serious, someone may take you seriously and believe that what you say is true. You are virtually putting in danger the lives of those who have the bad luck to read your post: and on top of that, it's obvious that you have no clue what you are talking about.
The derived unit of electrical resistance can be established with MUCH precision, there's no room for speculations.
Voltage by itself means nothing. I touch cables carrying 12,000V on daily basis, all i need is a pair of gloves which cost is 40€, made in Germany, and a pair of boots resistent to up to 30,000. If i forget to wear those gloves, i get roasted.
But NOT by the voltage: it's amperage what would kill me, NOT the voltage by itself.
I can kill you even with 45 volts, very easily, man: and if you don't believe me, we can do an experiment ( on YOUR skin) and share the results here (in this very section of the board, i mean). Do you want to try? It's free, i don't want to be paid for this.

Yep this explains why some people survive lightning strikes. Nice post, you know your physics

Re: Kid Climbs on Train, Lights Up

Volts, amps, either alone mean nothing.... That's like trying to compare RPM vs. torque.

Kilovolts X Amps = kilowatts.... That flesh took, perhaps, many thousands of watts of power.
