Police in Phuket confirmed the death of a senior German tourist who has died in a hotel in Patong on Thursday. The body was found after a maid had entered the room to clean up.

Karl-Heinz Prinz zu Hohenlohe-Oehringen, 78, was discovered half-naked on the toilet in room no. 807 with his head leaning against the wall when officers from Mueang Patong Provincial Police Station arrived to inspect the scene. “His clothes were scattered all over the bathroom. He was only wearing a bathrobe,” deputy investigator Pol Lt Tanakan Ucharatsami described the scene.

The man, who investigators found out lived in the state of Baden-Württemberg where he worked as an attorney, had been staying in the hotel alone since he checked in on January 23. Police did not disclose the name of the hotel but said it was located on Ratuthit Songroipi Rd in Kathu subdistrict.

A medical examiner from Patong Hospital noticed a laceration on the right side of Mr Hohenlohe-Oehringen’s face which police assumed might have been caused when he lost consciousness, and his head slammed against the wall. The tourist had been dead for at least six hours, Pol Lt Tanakan said.

During the inspection of the bathroom, officers found an empty can of beer and several packs of German-labeled prescription medication. Torasemide, a drug mainly used in the management of edema associated with congestive heart failure and hypertension, and the beta blocker bisoprolol which physicians often prescribe for heart-related diseases were among them. Tamsulosin, an alpha blocker used for prostate enlargement treatment, and other drugs were also found in the room and bagged as evidence.

Lead investigator Pol Lt Tanakan suspected Mr Hohenlohe-Oehringen’s death was caused by a heart failure but said he had to wait for the autopsy result and toxicology report until the official cause of death can be established.

The German Embassy in Bangkok told Farang Deaths it was aware of the death involving a German national in Phuket and are in the process of contacting the man’s relatives.

Volunteers of the Kusontam Foundation transported Mr Hohenlohe-Oehringen’s body to Patong Hospital where pathologists are going to conduct the post-mortem examination.

He died on 1st February 2018.

I am utterly confused with this one. The man in the thumbnail is not the same man in the passport photo. The passport is of a man who's 77 years old. Yet the man in the thumbnail, who has the same name, was cited as being 50 years old in an interview back in August 2011, making him now about 57 years old.

The man from the interview is said to be a prince. He has had a recycling company in Germany, since 2008, called Bopfingen, that he runs with his daughter.

Though if the original post was taken from the Farang Deaths website then they too have the same photos + video that's posted here. I'm confused!
