I work in the industry. It’s easy when done right. You don’t run, you raise the leg that is opposite the direction train is moving and it lifts you right up.

He took off carrying items in both hands. At the train, he still had his manpurse in his right hand, and probably had the other item in his left. He reached up to the grab rail with both hands, and his right hand immediately slipped off, still holding the purse. Darwin moment, there. If his hands were clear, he would have been able to do a 2-handed grab and muscle himself up to the steps.
