I suspect it was mainly just him giving up. In the earlier videos it looked like he had accepted his fate and dissociated from everything that was going on around him. Its also possible he had asphyxiated from smoke inhalation and heat exposure, causing him to quickly lose consciousness. But if you've ever seen the infamous monk self-immolation video, you'll know some people can just take that shit without screaming and flailing around.

During a trip to Japan our order included what I later learned was ear, you dipped it a few seconds into boiling oil at your table and then into a soy sauce based concoction and eat it, believe it or not it was delicious!  |
