Actually I do believe the reasons for our wars are ideological. I don't think it's usually obvious at first though. We do NOT go in every time for what appears to be humanitarian reasons though. If we did, we would be at war in dozens of countries right now. In fact we would be at war in EVERY middle eastern country instead of just 1. Yes, Iraq is over, woo hoo!

I believe the wars that we get involved in are better calculated than many people understand. For instance the media right now is asking what was accomplished in Iraq and why were we ever there?

Yet look at what has happened in that region since U.S. forces arrived. WAY TOO many good things to list. Dictators are going down more often than a prostitute on saturday night. It's reached the point that we don't even have to lift a finger to make it happen.

There was an article on yahoo just today speaking of how INCREDIBLY fast the younger generation in the middle east is turning around. They want the internet, freedom, music, movies and everything else that strict Islam would steal from them (and kill them for if caught with).

Of course history will probably not even mention the U.S. or our people that died to bring that to them. We will have to remember that ourselves with Memorial Day, which is a holiday we have once a year to remember our veterans.

Our families who got coffins filled with their loved ones returned from over there is our reward.

In fact many of the people in these countries who enjoy this new found freedom will still curse our existence in the streets. They will text each other with their new iphones speaking about hatred for us while they enjoy their new toys that Islam would NEVER allow them to have without our intervention.

That's the burden we've always carried. When it's said and done, yes, the world will be able to point the accusing finger at the U.S. and call us murderers because hundreds or even thousands of civilians will have died unfortunately.

However math is a factual creature that no one can escape from. Let's say 10,000 civilians are killed in Afghanistan and Iraq when it's said and done. If it's a million, my point still stands.

How many do you think would die in the end had we NOT intervened? What if strict Islam ruled that part of the world for the next thousand years? Or even 50 years? How many women would die for everything from driving to coloring their hair? Or just simply because their husband wanted to kill them.

How many people would die there from dictators? How many more would Saddam ALONE have killed if he stayed in power? What about the equally corrupt person he left in his place when finally he died? What about the asshole that Saddams replacement leaves in power when he dies? Etc. Etc.
