Drunk Long Island Public Safety Officer Robert Core Charged for Killing Pedestrian
First-time poster and I'm not sure if this will embed. July 15, 2011 EAST MEADOW, N.Y. A Long Island public safety officer was arrested and charged after he fatally struck a 50-year-old man on the Hempstead Turnpike late Thursday. According to authorities, Robert Core, 42, of Hempstead, was behind the wheel of a Town of Hempstead Department of Public Safety patrol car when he struck the victim who was crossing the turnpike just outside of the Nassau University Medical Center at around 11:30 p.m. The victim, who was not immediately identified, was rushed to the hospital by a volunteer ambulance crew that heard the crash and was just departing the medical center. The victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Core, who has worked with the Town of Hempstead's Public Safety Department for over 10 years, was charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI. Officials say he has been suspended from the department without pay pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. Core is expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead Friday. |

Whether or not the pedestrian looked both ways, if the driver was drunk driving, he's toast.

That's what happens when you don't use the crosswalk. My personal favourite is when ignorant pedestrians teach their children how to jaywalk. Those people deserve to die in the streets when they act like that. THAT would teach their children something.

the dude wasn't looking both ways. the car seemed to be going pretty quick too. the vehicle had the green light, but if your drunk and shit when it happens then your in trouble. the fact of him being a public safety officer have having a green light during the incident should be mitigating.

If he would've been dragg'n ass a bit more the other car would have hit him..... if the driver that hit him was sober....... what then????
