i roughnecked on a drilling rig back in the 80s. saftey has probably improved since then. they told me that the 1st rule is...there is none. it was a double derrick, about 110' to the crown. very dirty and tough work. we could make a bit trip, out and back in the hole at 5500' in about 1 and a half hrs. fun job but very dangerous
