Re: Desperate Woman Jumps Off Balcony to Escape House Fire
Building fires suck Go to a pullup up bar and hang there for 5 -10 minutes.. TBQH I would bet most average people couldn't hang on a pullup bar for no more than 3-5 minutes max. Moreover if your fingertips are burning from the radiant heat, even less time |

Re: Desperate Woman Jumps Off Balcony to Escape House Fire
Pretty high up, 7+ stories? I was hoping the bushy tree would save her. Does anyone see her body fall below the tree? It's hard to tell from the position of the camera, maybe the tree is to far from the building. Also, her position doesn't look that hot or Smoky Robinson, I wonder if she could have stayed on the balcony for a bit longer. But I have never been that close to an engulfed building...

she didn't have to jump. the balcony was clear of smoke. she could have stayed on the balcony, lay low and waited another 5-10 mins

Maybe. Who knows just what hell she was experiencing there. Maybe she had to let go because of the heat. Always a haunting image.

I used to work at the Navy Damage Control and Firefighting school in San Diego. Typically everyday we would set up structural, shipboard, and aviation fires for the students at basic and advanced levels. You would be surprised how much radiant heat is produced in a fire and how far away you can feel it.. |
