Crocodile Dragging Woman, That Washed Clothes, Down the River
A 59-year-old woman, Soudamini Mahala, was fatally attacked by a saltwater crocodile while washing clothes in the river near Bankupala village under the Jajpur forest range. The crocodile dragged her into the water. Authorities recovered her body and sent it for autopsy, while the forest department announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for the bereaved family. Bhitarkanika, home to over 1,800 saltwater crocodiles, remains a hazardous area, with officials urging locals to avoid water bodies for safety. |
