Re: China - Liquid Metal Mishap
A co-worker and friend told me a story about a middle aged guy he knew that had worked at a steel factory like this one. My friend had just returned to work after a couple of weeks vacation to his home town and told me he had just visited this old friend of his who had had an accident many years ago, the guy was sitting in a chair in his backyard, wearing shorts only and had his hands on his knees, his body completely burned and full of ugly scars. My friend said that the guy worked inside a concrete cabin where the controls for the molten iron buckets was located, on that fateful day when the bucket was passing over the cabin, one of the sides broke loose and the molten iron poured on top of the concrete cabin, all the workers outside disappeared under the molten steel, the heat was so high that the keys his friend had in his pocket melted. He was burnt all over, 100% but unbelievably survived. When he told me about the molten keys inside the trouser pocket I told him that I would have not believed him if I had not known a similar occurrence for a San Diego sailor that had keys melt inside his trouser pocket too after a fire in a war ship around the mid 80s early 90s (I can't remember well) only the last name of said sailor (Cauette or somthing similar). |

~ Obviously a new guy, because the molten metal cauldron was on an automatic pour timer which had not been checked. ~ The cauldrons have to be poured within a time limit or they will cool down too much & solidify. |
