The more I re-watch this clip, the more I get the impression that the victim was a low-level newbie to the business and didn't have any idea who he was working for or what kind of trouble his choice of employer was going to get him into.

Although given how beat to shit his legs look, he may have been going off of their script. That's another unsettling thought I had: If a sicario wants to look good to his boss or get paid by the head, what's to stop him from just snatching up some rando and forcing them to say what he wants on camera? Would the bosses even know for sure if it was actually a rival gangster, or just some poor schlub?

Either way, I don't think it's just drugs, trauma, or fear that's got this guy looking like he doesn't know what's going on. I really wish I could understand Spanish.

I've heard of this exact thing happening. Sicarios cashing contracts on random civilians; because who is to say they weren't cartel affiliated(dead men tell no tales).
