It looks like he was unconscious before they cut his head off. Either that, or a very stoic man able to remove himself from the reality of the situation he was in.
Sure he was exhausted, both physically and mentally, hungry, and dehydrated. I remember reading about a Saudi executioner who said the life left the condemned once they knew the end was imminent, and just became resigned to their fate.
