Because you can only get TPA in an emergency care setting, there IS no first aid for a stroke other than to get them to the hospital- where there's some Drano for the circulatory system.

Yeah the reason strokes and other forms of brain injury terrify me is that it seems people don't often even catch on to what's happening to them. My grandmother had developed tumors on her brain from yet to be diagnosed brain cancer, and only after all kinds of persuasion from others that had witnessed her diminished capacity did she herself begin to suspect something was wrong and see a doctor.

I have now , cant thank the stroke team enough , they were at my house every day making me do all sorts of exercises , I was told the first 3 months are the most crucial to recovery After 3 months recovery starts to slow down ,so the more you get stuck into it as fast as possible ,the more chance of a greater recovery. They were quality of life savers to be honest. I have been left with a few issues (severe fatigue, struggle a bit finding words ect a bit of depression and Some severe nerve damage , Basically brain damage . My brain tells me ive just had a boiling kettle of water poured over my chest and back (even though i havent , thats the sensation i get due to false signals ) That is under control now with a drug called gabapentin, )

also on strong antidepressents ( This is very common for stroke sufferers/survivors ) statins and blood thinners. To be totally honest i feel gifted to have survived it as i went to bed to sleep whilst it was happening , and woke up incapacitated , My brother inlaw had the same a year or so earlier but he didnt survive .

I went to bed just feeling a bit rough ,completely unaware what was happening , Woke up thankfully in the morning unable to walk,talk,function . I count myself very lucky in the grand scheme of things , could well have ended up dead . Recovery was very slow and still not 100 percent due to mental issues , chronic fatigue and severe nerve damage . I will take all that any day over being laid to rest at a funeral :)

I was only scared well after the event, The constant fear of it happening again , After talking to specialists ,and understanding the cause ( stress, over working, binge drinking, and more than likely contracting covid (before it become main news , i was very ill with all the symptoms as was my daughter and wife december 2019) I was reasurred that living a healthier life and sticking to the medication (blood thinners, statins) There isnt any reason it should happen again. Its quite amazing modern medicine and technology , The hospital actually showed me the damage , It appears as a black hole where the brain cells died , its around 20mm in diameter , Amazingly your brain when damaged will start to use other parts to attempt to carry out tasks that the dead bit used to . At first this causes extreme fatigue due to the brain having to work out a different route for the signals to be delivered, It retrains itself , just like a new baby developing the thought process :) ... and cheers
