Am I understanding the text correctly, the guy was at a bakery and buying bullets?

It kind of looks like the cashier gets hit by the first bullet like it traveled through the victim and struck her she drops like a sack of potatoes but I'm assuming either survived or wasn't actually hit and just looked that way

Bullets and candy share the same word ("bala") in brazilian portuguese. Don't ask me why, but it's how it is lol.
