~ They got caught, & the wife had them killed by making it look like a double suicide. Both locked in the car & at gunpoint.

likely exhaust leak, and crack in engine bay/firewall, combined-
can quickly result in CarbonMonoxide fumes infiltrating car.

A person can be overtaken by the fumes and get dizzy enough to go out.. then keep breathing enough fumes to die.
This happens faster than one realizes.

That's a VW Gol G5, the AC has 2 options: recirculate internal air, or grab air from outside, which would be "poisoned" by the gases if the car is not moving and it's not a windy day...
