In the eyes of the patient, self harm IS self-help/medication. You have to understand that someone can become addicted to self harm just like someone can become addicted to anything else due to what happens in the brain while self harming. When someone repeatedly cuts themself, the brain responds by releasing endorphins which serves to dull the pain and produce a feeling of euphoria. It's like a button that you can press anytime you want to feel good. But just like any other addictive behavior, chasing that euphoria creates a negative loop due to your body becoming habituated, so you have to escalate the behavior, more cutting, more or stronger drugs, etc. Addiction treatment typically involves a lot of CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), which is used to change the way people see the aforementioned button, and focus in on the physical/emotional triggers that would cause someone to want to press it, and redirect the thinking and behavior into something positive.

The BME Olympics was fucked up, but watchable. I mean I watched this the whole way through, jus like I’ll prolly watch the second one all the way or at least some or most the way through, and will never watch it again and will most likely never ever watch them again. . . And will forget about them with the help of mass weed consumption, will make this possible.
