To be fair, other bike racers have died in completely clear conditions. Simoncelli had a similar death on a clear track. I haven't yet seen what they think brought Antonelli's crash on. For all we know, though he "lost control" - it could have been his mistake or a bike part might have given out/broke and this would have happened regardless. You could be right too, I just don't think automatically blaming the rain is fair. Lots of races are ran in conditions like these across the motorsports world - some like it, some don't. It's almost a different skill set. The fact the rest of the riders make it fine on a straightaway suggests to me that it wasn't the rain. Antonelli's inexperience overall in rain races might have been the problem. It's not common for bikers in almost any conditions in these races to lose it on a straightaway. |
